Getting the Feeling- the Sunday Post
When I work on location, it is easy to get lost in the sounds ( birds...cars , insect hums) the feeling ( a breeze...the pastel or brush mark makings ) and of course the sights, which I fully immerse myself in.
This is what I try to remember when I am back in the studio working from sketches and photographs of the chosen scene.
I have heard people comment on my work when viewing that they could feel the sun , and hear the birds. What a beautiful compliment!
Since it has been so cold in parts of the country, I thought I would post a hot painting.
" December Hot Spot", pastel, 18x24.
This came out of a session at one of my favorite painting spots; an arboretum outside of Superior, Arizona. I did a few paintings on location, and felt I really caught the heat at the end of the day. It was a beautiful back/side lighting...particularly in how it lit up the needles of the cactus. Of course the iconic cactus forms add to the feeling of the hot desert. there is a lot of warm/cool contrast in this piece, making the warm areas feel that much more so. The intimate scale is designed to envelop the viewer in the scene.
This piece is available on my web site, in the " Amazing Arizona" section.
I hope you enjoy this burst of sun and warmth!
