The Sunday Post- Open Studio

Studio Dawn
Today is the last day of a three day group open studios in my area.
It is a chance to meet new people, see old friends, and be a part of the art community where I live, which is the Sedona/Verde Valley area.
Even though I'm a bit off of the beaten path, people enjoy making the trek up here to visit, particularly if they have not been here before.
I am most fortunate in that I have a lovely , dedicated space for my painting, teaching, and welcoming visitors. The space was built with these activities in mind.

Here is an exterior shot, taken with the reflection of a brilliant dawn in the studio windows. People won't be getting up that early to visit! However it is a nice welcome start to my days of working in the space.
When I started out painting, I did not have a space at all to work...and would use a kitchen table....and the great outdoors as my studio. I think that this played a part in my becoming a landscape painter. I progressed to a converted bedroom, and would invite people in for an open house...setting up my living room as a gallery of sorts, so that people would not have to climb stairs. I recall that I used my sofas as a browse bin!
These days, there is no less enthusiasm for meeting, and greeting collectors. In fact this is a nice opportunity to meet buyers face-to-face; something that is not always possible in an invited show or gallery setting.

This is a shot of me at work on a pastel in progress. It is wonderful to have a bright, airy space where I can just leave works in progress...even having a few going at a time.
in fact, I have a couple set up now, and if you're in the Verde Valley region today, I will be here until 5 pm. Here is a link for more info! www.sedonaartistscoalition.org. Just follow the Open Studios Signs with the bright red arrows!
