I've used pastels and enjoy them. Although, I must say they are not my favorite medium only due to my lack of experience with them, your work is lovely. I look forward to tips and techniques. Thank you for making this possible.
It takes away my fears of the medium when I see such great works of art and wonder to myself, could I ever become that good at it.

THE PASTEL PAD, May 2012
Welcome to my brand new blog, focusing on the art of pastel painting.
Here, I'll post new work, fresh from the easel, or the great outdoors , and even some pieces in progress.
I have been wanting to do this for a while, and what better time than on a day in May?
I'll have plenty of tips and techniques to share, work from other artists, and news about materials, exhibitions and events as well...and an occassional oil may slip in from time to time...just think of them here, for our purposes ,as pastel with a very formal accent, or in a different language altogether.

"Overgrown Corner", 9x12, is a pastel I painted en plein air up at the arboretum in Flagstaff. It is a patch of a wildflower garden under a large window frame. It is a favorite, as I'm pleased with the loosely descriptive strokes, and a limited selection of greens that hint at a wider variety. I often accomplish this by " pushing" the color temperature; in other words, the cool shades are quite blue, and the warm is very yellow.
I hope you'll join me on this new journey, as I hope to use this as a forum to promote this beautiful medium to anyone who loves the art of pastel...after all, it has been called " ...the dust on butterfy's wings"... Wolf Kahn.
Until next time,
Christine
