Arch Tango

Sometimes I like to re-visit a subject in different media, change it up , and explore it a bit further. This is a second version of a previous pastel, of an entry way to the Boyce- Thompson gardens. The trees form a beautiful, natural arch, and I love the dappled light...something we don't get too often in the desert.

In this version, I emphasized the warm light, and contrast to the cool shaded pathway. What I kept the similar was the viewpoint, and the idea of looking beyond the arch.

Here is the first version.  This one emphasizes the brilliant sun.

The new oil version is simplified by eliminating the architectural elements, and includes a tree trunk on the right.

Two media, same subject, different results!
